Overview:

Bath-Brunswick Veterinary Associates has an immediate full-time opening for an enthusiastic, friendly and compassionate Kennel Assistant with a sense of humor to join our team. Our ideal candidate will love working with clients as much as the animals, possess excellent communication skills, be self-motivated and have the desire to spend their day ensuring the care and comfort of our boarding and daycare animals.

Our kennel assistants are an integral part of our team and perform tasks directly related to animal care including walking, feeding, bathing, medicating, enrichment, sanitation and laundry. The ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment and handle multiple tasks at once with an attention to detail is required. Strong organizational skills are essential. Prior experience with animals in a kennel or shelter setting and/or grooming is preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate.
Responsibilities:
How you'll make an impact:

  • Provide compassionate care to boarding, daycare and grooming pets
  • Walking, playing and other pet enrichment activities (including cuddling!)
  • Check-in animals for boarding, discuss pet’s needs with owner, write specific feeding and medication instructions, behavior evaluations and additional services; record all information on boarding forms; place ID collars on all animals; record and label all personal belongings.
  • Maintain accurate medical records for eating, drinking and elimination habits; feed and water animals according to schedules; administer medications.
  • Regular monitoring of each pet, watching for any abnormal activity such as vomiting, diarrhea or other concerning behaviors/symptoms.
  • Work with our medical team to help facilitate evaluation of ill pets, with strong emphasis on recognizing emergency situations.
  • Check out animals for boarding, talk with owners, return all personal belongings, and review stay with owner.
  • Clean and disinfect cages, runs and yard as needed.
  • Maintain and uphold Core Values and Mission Statement.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • This position is physically demanding and requires a strong commitment to animal care as well as flexible hours including weekend and holidays.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and owners
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to navigate word based platforms
  • Desire to learn and utilize new skills
  • Must have reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and ability to speak the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Must be in the process of obtaining or have attained a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
