Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.
The Washington State Ferry (WSF) system is an essential part of Washington's transportation network, linking communities on both sides of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. There are over 400 sailings each day on 9 ferry routes. WSF transports nearly 24 million passengers a year and has more than 1,600 employees. Employees perform a variety of duties on vessels, in terminals, at the maintenance facility, and at the Seattle headquarters.
The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Journey-Level locksmith to provide maintenance and repairs on vessels and terminal mechanical and access control assemblies and mechanical locksets. level of repair meets the original equipment manufacturer’s standards. As a journey-level locksmith, you may be required to install and maintain wooden and metal door hardware locks. You will also be responsible for fabricating, cataloging, and issuing keys as approved by WSF Eagle Harbor management. In addition, you are required to maintain accurate security records to meet US Coast Guard standards. Respond to access and security issues around the clock.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Locksmith will:
Fabricate, catalog, and issue keys- Repair and provide routine maintenance for marine vessel and facility mechanical and electronic locksets and electric door strikes
- Install levers, knobs, push bars, latches, and wooden door closures, padlock repairs
- Repair/replace worn cores and springs
- Install and troubleshoot low-voltage electrical locks and A-MAG systems
- Install and troubleshoot Essex proximity readers and push pads
- Troubleshoot TWICs readers
- Diagnose and repair Key Systems Electronic Key Boxes
- Rekey/Re-core vessel Electronic Key Boxes and Security Rated accesses
- Maintain accurate record of routine maintenance and repairs made on vessels and Terminals
- Maintain lock shop supplies/inventory
- Respond to emergency calls as necessary 24/7
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- Certified technical training/degree to work with access control system
- Minimum two (2) years of experience with access control systems
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or the ability to obtain no later than 90 days of hire
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Experience and/or training in lock manipulation
Important Notes
- Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 357-16-197 mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
