Background
The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is central to the ability of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) to predict weather, water, and climate conditions. AWIPS provides NWS with the means to integrate meteorological and hydrological data into a single computer workstation.

Position Description
Will provide whole SDLC and support services to NWS headquarters. Will analyze, design, develop, test, document, and deploy new features and enhancements on the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS). Duties include:

• Analyze requirements;
• Estimate task effort;
• Conduct application design, create and present design documents for design review;
• Independently conduct unit testing and other required testing; and,
• Complete required documentation.

Required Skills

• 1+ years of hands-on Java development experience in full life cycle software projects.
• Solid knowledge and experiences on Object-Oriented analysis and design and documentation.
• Ability to work independently or within an agile team.

Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

Desired

• 1+ years solid experiences on Unit Testing, capable of developing unit testing routines by using unit testing frameworks, JUnit; able to create integration test plan and support integration testing;
• 1+ years solid developing experiences in Linux / Unix environment, capable to use most used Linux / Unix commands, tools, utilities, shell scripts;
• 1+ years hands-on experience with popular Java IDEs, such as Eclipse, NetBeans; and,
• 1+ years experiences of using version control tools, such as Git, SVN, etc.
• RCP rich application development experiences is highly preferred.
• 2D / 3D image processing / visualization skills will be preferred.

Education
BS in Computer Science, related discipline, or equivalent.

Location
This is a hybrid position requiring 2 days in the office at NOAA's Silver Spring location and 3 days teleworking per week.
