Job Description
This is a full-time position with Great Basin College (GBC), based at the Elko campus, beginning March 2023. This is a twelve month, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses focusing on pumps, power transmissions, rigging, blueprint reading, shaft alignment, and other aspects of fixed maintenance and repair. Incumbent will teach short classes for mining employees. The successful candidate will develop and revise curriculum to keep classes current with industry standards. Although the position is based at the Elko campus, travel within the region is required to facilitate instruction and workforce development. This position reports to the Executive Director, Mining Center of Excellence and Workforce Development
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Millwright Technology or related field. In lieu of a degree, equivalent work experience of more than five (5) years will be considered.
  • Five (5) years of experience in mining-related fixed equipment repair & maintenance is required.
  • Experience with training others in a workforce setting and presentation skills required.
  • Experience in career and technical education and mentoring strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team member with a genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in alternative educational delivery methods or willingness to learn alternative delivery methodology.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel by car throughout the state of Nevada and the Western regional area as needed to campus and industry locations, with or without accommodations as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and teach classes in all aspects of Millwright Technology.
  • Supervise students in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Direct, guide, and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies.
  • Interact with mining and industry partners to enhance community partnerships.
  • May teach evening and distance education classes.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching and program support.
  • Represent the college in a professional manner.
  • Participate in college-wide committees and activities as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits:
Annual salary range is $60,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience and education.
Nevada System of Higher Education benefits package includes a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan with employees contributing 15.50 % and a matching 15.50% from the employer, medical/dental/vision plan, benefit time, 11 paid holidays, and tuition waiver at Nevada System of Higher Education colleges for the employee and family. There is no state income tax in Nevada.

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.
