Job description

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, the Housekeeper performs repetitive cleaning tasks in maintaining areas in an orderly and sanitary condition. In doing so, moves a cleaning cart with supplies from room to room and performs a variety of light housekeeping duties, plus performs various functions concerned with laundry.
Each Housekeeper is assigned a hall of responsibility. Periodic Inspections will be part of the employee’s performance appraisal.
This responsibility includes:

• The hall and all rooms within the hall.
• The performance and quality of completing assigned tasks.
• Maintaining area according to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly schedules.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with employees and residents in a pleasant manner.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure that any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
• Ability to use basic housekeeping and laundry equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to efficiently perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions, to read and interpret cleaning solution labels, MSDS literature and to write to complete activity logs.
• Approximately one month on the job experience to learn sanitation principles and techniques, the building layout and departmental policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Laundry experience desired, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical stamina to handle a full shift of being active and engaged in physical activity.
• Great distances of walking due to size of facility; frequent bending, stretching, twisting, stooping, standing and crouching.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with human or mechanical assistance.
• Moderate exposure to blood borne pathogens and moderate exposure to chemical odors and cleaning solvents.

• Talk clearly and hear conversation in moderately noisy work environments.
• Ability to walk and stand for ninety percent of work time when performing cleaning duties and to push and pull carts of housekeeping supplies weighing up to twenty pounds for eighty percent of work time.
• Ability to twist, bend and lift during mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning procedures.
• Ability to climb ladders to hang cubicle and window drapes or reach high areas for other cleaning purposes as necessary.
