SURVEYOR'S OFFICE
The County Surveyor is responsible for providing information to the public on the complex issues of property ownership and for the timely review of all parcel maps, subdivision maps, records of survey, lot line adjustments, certificates of compliance, street names and addresses, Abandonment of Public Easements and Irrevocable Offers of Dedication to facilitate development and serve the public, County departments, and outside agencies. The County Surveyor is also responsible for the Geographic Information System (GIS) including operation, maintenance and enhancements. The system is used to manage a variety of project and permitting databases and to interpret data in conjunction with location to create maps providing responsive service to the public, County departments and outside agencies.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:


  • Plan, organize, assign, coordinate, and review all activities of the County's GIS program, including coordinating with County departments, external agencies, and the public to identify, develop, and plan GIS projects and staffing needs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead the implementation and usage of GIS technology and spatially-relatable data throughout the county, external agencies, and by the public; oversee and manage data maintenance and updating, data storage and distribution, and access to all users.
  • Lead the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for GIS including GIS data collection, storage, access, distribution policies, integration, and standard operating procedures; identifies resource needs.
  • Plan, organize, review, and evaluate the activities of assigned staff; recommend and implement disciplinary action as necessary; assist in the selection of staff and provide for their training and professional development.
  • Manage and participate in the development and administration of the office's annual budget; provide a forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.
  • Work with elected officials and executive-level staff in the formulation of management policies concerning the compilation of information and the integration of data through the County's GIS function; coordinate and oversee the implementation of such policies.

Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations. Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in geographic information systems, computer science, geography, public or business administration, or a closely related field;
AND

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience at a level equivalent to the County's class of Sr. Geographic Information Systems Analyst, including two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
