Lumos Diagnostics has an opening for a full-time Facilities Engineer to join its Operations team in Carlsbad.

The Lumos Diagnostics Facilities Engineer is responsible for defining business processes and aggregating and interpreting specific types of data that can be used to increase effectiveness and efficiency within the Facilities & Engineering organization. This role supports the department’s prioritization of projects and programs, provides analytical clarity on the accuracy of resource commitments to support the overall goals, increases operational efficacy by improving processes, and monitors plan versus actual commitments according to plans.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Responsible for managing the standards, methods, and procedures for the design, modification, and maintenance of manufacturing, packaging equipment, Manufacturing, and processes.
- Plans, executes, and tracks a variety of engineering projects.
- Manage small to large projects and track spending of budgets, creating the scope of work, risk assessments, justification, and cost estimates, and implementing purchase order requisitions, and contracts.
- Coordinate installation, engineering start-up, and validation activities of new equipment and systems including the ability to draft and manage documentation of user requirement specifications, system impact assessments, IQ/OQ protocols, execution, and summary reports.
- Ensuring that facility additions/future work meets government regulations and environmental, health and security standards.
- Strong understanding of facilities related to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) beneficial.
- Understanding of asset management, facilities and equipment maintenance, and calibration systems
- Represent the department in Project Team meetings and interact with project teams and cross-functional groups.
- Responsible for vendor contact for third-party maintenance and calibration activities.
- Assist in process transfer and optimization as required.
- Contributes to the development of department strategy.
- Coordinates cross-functional efforts to resolve manufacturing environment and maintenance issues.
- Manages project budgets and organizes resources according to team priorities and customer needs.
- Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards.
- Contributes to the development of corporate energy management goals and the strategies needed to accomplish them.
- Ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives.
- Provides leadership and direction to engineers, maintenance managers and technicians, reliability engineers, and a wide variety of contractors.
- Manages a team of personnel, including hiring, organizing, and/or conducting training, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring assigned work is performed to required standards.
- Leads the day-to-day activities of a team of personnel, which may include people managers or supervisors.
- Provides leadership and direction to engineers and contractors.
- May participate in audits to include internal, vendors, or contract manufacturers.
- Implements systems for tracking project progress.
- Supports and contributes to site continuous improvement initiatives.
- Compiles and reports technical performance metrics.
- Maintains and develops existing engineering systems which support equipment run times
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Support facility maintenance activities as needed, including housekeeping, pest control. HVAC, and general building maintenance.

CRITICAL EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
- 4-7+ years of relevant experience and a BS or BA in Science/Engineering discipline
- 4-7 years of related experience
- Has previous experience in the biotech or pharmaceuticals industry.
- Has previous experience in engineering in highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Demonstrates extensive understanding and application of facility and infrastructure engineering principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
- Demonstrates proficiency in current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety regulations.
- Strong knowledge of current industry trends and the ability to use the latest technologies is beneficial.
- Demonstrates knowledge of biological manufacturing, OEE, MTBF, and root cause failure analysis.
- Design and Operational experience with Life Science HVAC systems a major plus.
- Demonstrates knowledge of energy management philosophies and technologies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Reliability Design concepts.
- Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of CAD/SolidWorks or other comparable engineering software and 3D printing is highly desirable.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Hands-on contributor capable of understanding the validation, engineering, maintenance, and calibration programs as well as requirements in the regulated industry.
- The individual must be capable of independent work. Required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
