PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing strategic planning, innovation, programming, development/fund raising, human resources, and operations of the COMO in support of the organizational mission and goals.
Provides leadership, direction, and support to the Board of Directors in developing organizational goals, attaining/allocating resources, and establishing policies. Provides leadership, professional development and direction to staff and management in carrying out the key roles assigned to them.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Leadership
Provide leadership and direction to ensure the effective operation and delivery of programs within the COMO and community:
● Support the organization's mission and principles.
● Ensure an environment that facilitates the achievement of key outcomes.
● Ensure programs, services and activities that support key outcomes.
● Ensure establishment of, and adherence to, policies and procedures.
Strategic Planning
· In conjunction with the Board of Directors, implement the strategic plan.
· Development and implementation of the strategic plan.
· Ensure and oversee the identificationand evaluation of opportunities for
improvement and implements plans for enhancements, including programmatic innovation and development, ensuring The Como remains a revered organization.
Board Development
· Identify, recruit, and develop a diverse, effective board in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
· In conjunction with the Executive Board, ensure active participation by board members and support effective board roles, and board development activities.
Development
· Comprehensive responsibility for development activities including, but not limited to, donor cultivation, engagement and partnerships.
· Oversee the expansion of financial development strategic plans and, as necessary, participate in cultivation and solicitation of donor visits with board members.
· Lead capital campaigns, and campaigns directed at specific COMO initiatives, as appropriate.
· Lead and execute key fundraising and community exposure events.
· Interface with the Town of Stonington, and other appropriate grant/funding entities to maintain an awareness of ongoing grant opportunities.
Resource Management
· Ensure all necessary administrative, operational and infrastructure systems are in place to support effective operations throughout the campus.
· Ensure productive and effective staff performance, by building retention and equity in the management team by enhancing their skill set on a continual basis.
· Perform yearly review process of management team.
· Recruitment, training, and engagement of volunteers.
· Manage key fundraising/community events (Village Fair, etc.)
Financial Management
· Establish pricing of services, events, and memberships.
· Negotiate costs including wages, salaries, and external vendors.
· Monthly reporting on cash flow, P&L, and balance sheet.
· Ensure development, implementation and monitoring of the COMO's annual budget in collaboration with financial management staff and external accounting resources.
Technology
Ensure the development and implementation of plans for updating existing technology and resources:
- Ensure the acquisition and allocation of funds for implementing and updating existing technology and resources.
- Ensure the maintenance of COMO technology and information management systems.
Partnership Development
· Develop strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials.
· Develop collaborative partnerships with other similar organizations, members, parents, families, volunteers, funders, and community organizations.
Marketing and Public Relations
· Increase visibility of COMO programs, services and activities and maintain outstanding public relations.
· Increase marketing of programs and facilities to both residents and the community at large.
· Ensure a positive social media presence.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
May be assigned special projects periodically by the Board of Directors.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain contact with Board of Directors, COMO staff, volunteers, contractors, and COMO members.
External: Maintain contact with potential and current donors, external community groups, parents, school officials, and others as required.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
● Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, master’s degree preferred.
● A minimum of five to seven years’ experience in managing programs or operations in a non-profit agency with at least two years in a leadership capacity; or an equivalent combination of experience.
● Thorough knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of the COMO; the principles and practices of managing non-profit organizations; and resource development activities and sources of funding. Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan, and coordinate operations.
Executive Director
Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, staff leadership and delegation.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, contractors, community groups, and other related agencies.
Basic knowledge of asset management including financial resources and property.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
