CURRENT VACANCY IS IN PUBLIC WORKS/GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of course work equivalent to the academic requirements of a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field (Master's degree in any of the above disciplines or a related field is preferred, a Masters degree in Public Administration is also preferred); and seven (10) years progressively responsible experience in public works management or a related area, including four (7) years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Specific License or Certification Required:Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license (as required by position assignment).Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Professional Engineers License.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform planning and programming duties related to directing the overall operations of the Public Works Department, including managing assigned staff; capital construction development; design, construction, and renovation of County transportation services; water systems maintenance, water reclamation and wastewater collections, and water & pollution control; and developing short-and long-range public works programs. Director, Public Works is distinguished from Deputy Director, Public Works in that the former directs the entire Public Works Department and establishes the department's mission, vision, goals, and objectives, whereas the latter plans, organizes, and administers the overall operations of assigned divisions in addition to developing strategic plans and allocating resources to achieve program goals and objectives. This classification is also responsible for the oversight of Fulton County Airport and Airport maintenance.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Directs the Public Works Department and oversees various operational and programmatic functions, such as public works projects, airport planning and projects, budget, staffing, strategic planning, and the allocation of resources.
Manages assigned staff, including establishing workloads; prioritizing work assignments; evaluating employee performance; developing, interpreting, and enforcing policies and procedures; resolving staff issues; and administering disciplinary action as required.
Collaborates with the County Manager and Board of Commissioners to develop short- and long-range public works programs and airport planning.
Administers various departmental programs, including Water and Pollution Control, Solid Waste, Engineering, Transportation, and Construction.
Manages and tracks departmental budget, monitors expenditures, and develops alternative solutions for providing public works services to citizens.
Represents Fulton County Government at public meetings to address public works and airport issues, objectives, and accomplishments.
Administers program and construction management activities related to the County's Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
