Dealership Controller
Houston, TX
Russell & Smith Automotive Group has been family owned and run dealership group since 1937 located in Houston, TX. We are currently looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and energetic Automotive Dealership Controller to join our team.
Since our auto group has a very loyal and tenured employee base, this opportunity is very rare for our organization. Russell and Smith Auto Group operates a Ford, Mazda, and Honda dealership plus a collision center off the South Loop of Houston which puts our group in the middle of the Houston metroplex. The group operates one of the largest parts wholesale operations in the country among the three manufacturers we represent. We are located within three miles of the Texas Medical Center and right next to NRG Stadium. This store offers aggressive compensation packages based on experience. Our ideal candidates must have a servant’s heart and enjoy training and developing people. They must have a successful automotive career with at least three years of controller experience running a multi franchise group. The position requires leadership qualities with strength on controlling expenses and quality balance sheet skills.
Pay Range is based on Experience.

Responsibilities:
This position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Oversight of the accounting office personnel along with all aspects of the general ledger and financial statements
- Partner with the General Managers to manage the financial results of the dealership
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
- Responsible for adherence to dealership policies and internal control structure
- Proactively manage and safeguard company assets
- Actively manage expense structure and vendors
- Lead monthly account payable meeting with the department heads
- Prepare the daily, weekly, and monthly reports required by the management team
- Work with the management staff of the dealership to review the data and prepare reports/analysis as necessary
- Work through insurance renewals
- Keep all the dealerships licenses and renewals up to date
- Manage the Human Resource department
- Work alongside the company CPA on quarterly and yearly audits
- Oversee accounting on the ownerships separate real estate and business ventures
Preferred Qualifications:
The controller candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, and Dealership Controller experience (3+ years preferred). Preferred CPA accreditation
- Must have strong CDK DMS experience
- Some experience with ADP payroll +
- Ability to be analytical, problem solve and multi-task
- Experience building strong teams
- Consistent and stable work history
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Professional appearance and work ethic
