Data Engineer Intern

Overview

The Data Engineer Intern will work with the Data Operations team to help develop and code software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. They will help to analyze and evaluate the usability of data provided by customers and interact with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data quality. They will also develop, and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze diverse data sources to generate actionable insights with guidance from the Data Operations team.

Responsibilities

• Help to develop and program methods and processes to consolidate, normalize, and analyze data.
• Monitor and learn current processes and technology through observation, shadowing, and documentation.
• Work with the Data Operations team to assemble data sets that meet business requirements.
• Present results from these analyses to management, communicate issues to and from clients, and coordinate resolution of those issues.
• Monitor the system’s business performance, identify areas for improvement and assist in the identification and tracking of issues with guidance from the Data Operations team.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an undergraduate degree in data engineering or an analytical related field such as Statistics or Computer Science.
• Intermediate to advanced experience with SQL.
• Moderate proficiency in Python, SAS or R.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work with a team.
• Proven ability to work on time-sensitive deliverables.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Azure.
• Retail data experience.
• Exposure and experience processing and analyzing large data sets.
• Exposure to data warehouse solutions (Hadoop/Netezza/Greenplum).
