Job Summary


The DNR is seeking to fill one a seasonal, part-time (90%) Customer Service Specialist position at St Croix State Park near Hinckley, MN. Days and hours of work vary, and include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Anticipated season dates are April 4th through October 24th, each year.

This position performs sales work and a variety of assigned duties to maintain the operation of St. Croix State Park retail store.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist visitors in the selection of merchandise in a courteous, efficient manner so that the customer’s satisfaction is assured.
  • Accurately enter all sales on the cash register according to proper procedures; inventory levels are updated on a sale by sale basis, receipts are reconciled at end of day.
  • Perform store activities as needed or when not doing cashiering duties.
  • Provide information and service to the general public so that customer perceives a pleasant image of St. Croix State Park and its personnel and have their needs met.
  • Perform physical inventory as scheduled in the store.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationship skills with staff, supervisors and visitors and participate in the Park mission, vision, initiative, and strategies as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide information and assistance to the public and other employees in a courteous manner.
  • Communication skills sufficient to respond appropriately to questions from the public and other staff effectively and courteously.
  • Math skills sufficient to handle sales transactions, provide accurate change to customers, and count and reconcile daily revenue receipts.
  • Knowledge of point of sale software sufficient to process merchandise sales.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills sufficient to work as a productive member of a team.
  • Conflict resolution/human relation skills sufficient to negotiate, resolve issues, read situations and settle disputes equitably by finding common ground and cooperation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of retail sales experience.
  • Visual merchandising skills sufficient to create effective retail displays to maximize ability to sell merchandise and capture customer interest.
  • Knowledge of park rules, policies, facilities and other local points of interest.
  • First Aid and CPR training.

Physical Requirements

Light Work - Requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
