SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is seeking a crane operator for construction of a new seafood processing barge taking place in the Fairhaven Shipyard in Bellingham, WA. Operator will safely transport loads in the shipyard with the use of lifting equipment via cranes. This person will work closely with other construction workers and ground operators. To succeed in the role, you should have hands-on experience with cranes and building materials, ability to problem solve, attention to detail and be safety conscientious.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Safely operate cranes
• Understand rigging and load transfer requirements from one site to another
• Interpret drawings, diagrams and writings/manuals pertaining to safe and effective operations and set up of equipment
• Coordinate effectively with ground operators via hand & verbal signals
• Follow company safety guidelines & protocols
• Apply working knowledge of wind direction, velocity, and other weather conditions, to ensure safety of product movement.
• Conduct and completes daily pre-operational check form before placing crane into service.
• Reports defective or inoperative equipment to the applicable parties.
• Perform regular maintenance of cranes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working on construction sites and/or shipyards highly preferred
• Knowledge of construction site best practices and safety procedures preferred
• Previous experience as a crane operator
• At lease 18 years of age
• Years of previous crane operator experience a plus
• Preferred certifications: NCCCO (or equivalent)
• Must be able to comply with NCCCO (or equivalent) Substance Abuse Policies
• Must be dependable and punctual
• Ability and willingness to follow instructions and be a team player
• Experience with steel fabrication & welding a plus, but not a requirement

This job operates in an outdoor shipyard. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to wet, cold, windy and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particulars, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration, and/or foreign objects resulting from welding and grinding activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance, as well as talk and hear. Employee must be able to communicate effectively via verbal and visual signaling. Employee must be able to work in confined spaces, possibly crouched for prolonged periods of time. The position requires the employee to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
