Based in Joplin, Missouri the Cost Accountant position provides strategic direction and management for ensuring oversight for cost accounting and financial analysis functions. The Joplin Performance Center is focused on passionately delivering reliable and innovative solutions through collaboration and transparency ensuring customers' peace of mind.
- Oversee financial analytics, cost accounting and EAC process.
- Determine cost of operations by establishing and documenting estimate of completion costs; collect operational data.
- Work with the material and operation functions to audit processes surrounding inventory (costing, equivalent units, transaction trials, cycle counts, customer furnished material and obsolete/excess material).
- Provide training and guidance to the production floor on inventory related activities.
- Provide regular margin analysis reports for actual versus bid to the facility staff.
- Guide cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; provide trends and forecasts; explain processes and techniques; recommend actions.
- Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and make comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials.
- Confirm costs by collecting, interpreting, and reporting data.
- Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Perform other assignments as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Three (3) or more years cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience preferably in manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills, talent development and change management skills.
- Self-starter capable of interacting closely with production, bidding and customer service as well as the ability to quickly identify and solve complex problems.
- Strong analytical ability and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work with a large volume of detail, producing accurate results within aggressive deadlines.
- Advanced level of computer skills in e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Proficient MRP/ERP system skills.
- Ability to prepare business correspondence, reports, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present technical and budgetary or cost information, and respond to questions from managers and external contractors.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability involving many variables and limited standardization.
- Leadership skills—people management, meeting facilitation, presentation, and customer support.
- Negotiation and conflict management skills together with demonstrated experience troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Excellent written and verbal skills to interact with people at all levels and functions inside and outside the company.
- Ability to multitask efficiently and adapt within a rapidly changing environment.
