Job description
Establish policy and procedures of Mental Health Services. Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling to students addressing mental health concerns impacting their overall well-being and quality of life.
- Coordinate operations and establish policies and procedures for Mental Health Services: a. Provide staff who support mental health initiatives with supervision and training for all aspects of Mental Health Services processes and department policies; coordinate work assignments; and participate in staff performance evaluations. Define appropriate professional goals and accountability systems for staff. b. Identify and implement a clinical records database and coordinate the database's testing, implementation and utilization. c. Maintain strategic partnerships with local and virtual mental health service providers to improve campus mental health wellness and capacity d. Organize and oversee a panel of experts to develop policies and procedures related to mental health conditions and Section 504 in coordination with the Counselor for Accommodations and Mental Health Initiatives. e. Create, maintain and update all necessary clinical documentation. f. Maintain confidential records of all students who use mental health services. g. Plan, implement, evaluate and revise all processes and procedures of Mental Health Services. h. Authorize any and all expenditures and maintain budget responsibility for appropriate utilization of funds. i. Interpret policies, rules and regulations to ensure compliance with Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act and any future legislation in the mental health area. Maintain relevant data and evaluate the major components of the Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act for college and state reporting. j. Provide other assigned functions as appropriate that contribute to the Mental Health and Wellness Center and support the mission, vision and values of the College.
- Provide Mental Health Counseling and Crisis Intervention: a. Provide individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to students. Make appropriate referrals to community agencies when appropriate. b. Manage effective relationships with Counseling Services and faculty and staff when responding to students in crisis or displaying concerning behavior.
- Support Campus Initiatives Addressing Mental Health Support: a. Serve as a consultant to the Behavioral Intervention Team. b. Coordinate awareness of mental health screenings and resources that are available online and on campus through development and maintenance of a readily visible mental health resources page on the College website. c. Serve as a co-advisor to a peer support program. d. Coordinate virtual mental health platform with the Counselor of Accommodations and Mental Health Initiatives. e. Develop, implement and present educational resources and sessions for students, faculty and staff aimed at raising awareness about mental health. f. Participate in Illinois Mental Health First Aid Training and coordinate with Human Resources to provide training for campus community as needed.
Specific Functional Job Requirements
Education:
Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or related field. Current LCPC or LCSW required
Experience:
Professional counseling experience required; experience in a college setting preferred.
Knowledge:
Mental health counseling; psychological disorders; individual emotional and behavioral patterns and social and economic factors that contribute
Skills
Ability to engage a diverse population of students and staff in educational and promotional activities; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills
Personal:
Strong sense of commitment to mental health and wellness and the community college philosophy.
Physical:
Ability to travel around campus, throughout the district, and state.
