The Somerville Homeless Coalition presents a twice-monthly inclusive sit-down dinner open to all community members, the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month- Come to the Table (C2TT). The meal is served from 4:45-7PM, and available to-go or inside at Connexion Church (149 Broadway).

This meal is a place for community members to feel safe and welcome, and eat good food. Diversity in cooking styles, meals, and ingredients is welcome. Ingredients are provided on-site by Project Soup staff, and volunteers are available to help cook and serve the meal.

Funding is available to cover up to 16 hours per month at $30/ hour. This will be an independent consultant type position, with flexible hours (beyond attendance at the bi-monthly meals on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 12-8) and no office is provided. Payment is quarterly, based on an invoice to SFSC fiscal agent, Somerville Homeless Coalition. Supervision will be provided by a designated team from the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

Tasks include:

  • Planning and implementing the bi-monthly meal with support of Project SOUP staff
  • Set the menu and update the grocery and supply list by 12:00pm on the Wednesday prior to the meal
  • Cook the meal at Connexion and be prepared to begin serving no later than 4:45pm
  • Supervise the kitchen volunteers which will be scheduled by Connexion (other meal volunteers will be supervised by Project SOUP staff)
  • At the conclusion of the meal, inventory supplies, repack supply bins, pack any remaining leftovers and unused ingredients to be taken back to Project SOUP
  • Prepare, cook and serve the meal in compliance with all health regulations for food safety
  • Maintaining systems and standard procedures to help sustain the program
  • Attend once monthly meeting with Connexion and Project SOUP to discuss updates, challenges, changes, etc.

Skills required:

  • ServSafe certification and experience with food/meal preparation in tight time and space, Excellent oral communication skills; minimum of moderate fluency in Spanish desirable, other languages welcome. Clear written communication on various platforms.
  • Comfortable with social media and group sharing tools (Google tools, etc.)
  • Ability to organize and coordinate volunteers for monthly event(s) (with recruitment assistance from SFSC),
  • Good organizational skills, including tracking and documenting participation,
  • Ability to set up systems and standard operating procedures.
