Responsibilities:
The Chaplain Certified Educator Candidate (CEC) will perform pastoral, administrative and educational duties including participating in didactic instruction and literature review while developing the skills, knowledge and experience of providing clinical pastoral supervision to residents and students. Under the guidance and supervision of a CPE Certified Educator, the CEC will assist with curriculum development, mentoring, training and supervising Chaplain Residents in providing spiritual and emotional support for patients, families and staff within the context of illness, suffering, loss and death.

The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is a fully accredited center of CPE of Central California to offer Level I/II, and Certified Educator CPE by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.

Accountabilities

1. Assists with the maintenance of CPE program records, reports, policies and educational resources.
2. Assists with development of the educational curriculum for CPE residency program.
3. Assists with the operations of the CPE residency program, including but not limited to: attending, observing, participating in, and/or facilitating seminars, group learning activities, and individual supervision, as well as reflection.
4. Participates in planning and implementing the administrative duties, including but not limited to: recruitments, admission interviews, and evaluations for CPE Residents.
5. Supervises each resident's clinical work by providing a student-centered learning environment, develops educational goals and evaluates each resident under the supervision of a ACPE certified educator.
6. Provides spiritual care to patients and families at the hospital. Assists in sacramental ministry as appropriate; provides referral to community faith leaders/clergies for requested rituals as needed.
7. Collaborates and communicates with the interdisciplinary team in assessing the needs of the patient and family to ensure that comprehensive care is provided. Participates in patient care conferences, as needed.
8. Documents and presents clinical material to peers and leadership as a part of their on-going education experience.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education

• Bachelor's Degree from a CHEA accredited or approved college/university required
• Master's Degree in Theology OR equivalent required
• Ordination or commissioned to function as a spiritual care provider by an appropriate religious/spiritual authority as determined by ACPE required

Experience

• 4 units of Level I/Level II ACPE Certified Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required
• Demonstration of spiritual care and conceptual competence as evidenced by the attainment/completion of Level I/Level II Outcomes required

Licenses and Certifications

• CEC - ACPE Certified Educator Candidate or eligible to be certified within 180 days required

Additional Requirements for CRMC CPE Certified Educator Program

• A completed Application for Certified Educator Program required
• Endorsement/statement of accountability from an appropriate religious/spiritual authority as determined by ACPE required
• Evaluation of the competencies for admission to a Certified Educator Program required
• Current ACPE membership required
