Beautiful butterflies will once again be fluttering throughout our Hilbert Conservatory this Spring, and part-time Butterfly Keepers will be needed from now through November to care for them! The pay for this position is $13.00 per hour.
Butterfly Keepers care for the exhibit while answering questions for guests and observing guest/butterfly interactions. Strong candidates will be able to patiently provide exceptional customer service and have the ability to learn and explain butterfly behavior. Butterfly Keepers must have excellent interpersonal skills, maintain a professional demeanor, and project a professional appearance due to regular visitor contact, and special events. This is a part-time, 20-29 hours per week, position that will work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
Duties include:
- Receive and inventory butterfly chrysalis shipments
- Monitor chrysalis development
- Feeding the butterflies, and cleaning the office and exhibit space
- Standing for long periods of time
- Working evenings, weekends, and holidays
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment testing including a criminal history and driving record check, and a drug test. The Indianapolis Zoo is requiring all Zoo employees and volunteers to be Covid-19 vaccinated unless individuals require a medical or religious belief accommodation.
