The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine, and the University of Vermont Health Network (UVMHN) seeks a pathologist to provide anatomic and clinical pathology services at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) in Plattsburgh, NY. This full-time position in the department’s Community Practice Pathology Division will join a 4-pathologist team, all with more than 10 years’ experience, providing state-of-the-art patient care at CVPH. The department completes approximately 10,000 surgical cases, 2,000 non-gyn cytopathology cases, and 4,000 Paps per year. This position will focus on providing autopsy services at the CVPH location, based on contracts with three counties in upstate New York. The case load is approximately 200 autopsies (mix of medical and forensic, not all complete) per year. All faculty will perform autopsies, but the new recruit will be responsible for the majority. The ideal candidate also will serve as the CLIA Laboratory Director for the CVPH Clinical Laboratories, and provide cross coverage in anatomic pathology. As the CLIA Laboratory Director at the CVPH location, they will be a member of our department’s “High Value Patient Care” leadership team responsible for ensuring high-quality pathology and laboratory services across our 7 hospital laboratories in VT and upstate NY. This position offers the applicant the opportunity to be part of an academic pathology department and a faculty member at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine and the University of Vermont, while working in a community practice environment.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience, including autopsy, general surgical and cytopathology, and clinical laboratory management, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in a high-volume community practice is highly desirable. Applicants must be Board-eligible or Board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and eligible for medical licensure in New York. Fellowship training in forensic pathology, surgical pathology, and/or cytopathology is desirable, and obtaining appropriate New York State Certificate of Qualification(s) will be required.
Plattsburgh is located on the shores of Lake Champlain, near the Adirondack Mountains, the Olympic-Lake Placid region, Montreal, Canada, and Burlington, Vermont. While working at CVPH, many physicians live throughout the region including, upstate New York, upstate Vermont, and southern locations in the province of Quebec, Canada.
