Associate Director of Admission for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Job description
JOB DESCRIPTION
The position involves cultivating relationships with inquiring students, visiting with them in their home regions and/or on-campus, evaluating their admission applications, and individually encouraging them to choose Saint Michael’s during yield season. Ideal candidates will also bring experience and knowledge to conversations and programming about diversity, equity, and inclusion on college campuses and in an Admission setting, and will productively engage in campus-wide conversations in a mission-centered way. The DEI focus of this role enables the successful candidate to work collaboratively with other members of the admission staff and offices like the Center for Student Diversity, Empowerment, and Community to foster a sense of inclusion and belonging for prospective students. Admission professionals work creatively and use strategic, data-driven techniques employing strong telephone, written, and in-person communication skills. The position requires availability during both weekends and evenings. A significant amount of overnight travel will also be required for approximately 8 weeks in the fall and 4 weeks in the spring. A car will be provided for college-related travel.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Contributes to the overall enrollment goal with a focus on increasing and supporting prospective students with historically marginalized and minoritized backgrounds, and building and leveraging relationships with partnered schools and community-based organizations to increase student enrollment
- Serves as the admissions team lead on equity and inclusion; assists with training and leads workshops on DEIA best practices in admission; and mentors new staff to recruit, evaluate, and enroll a diverse body of students
- Contributes to diversity recruitment strategy, including collaborating on assessing and amending policy, procedures, and admissions communications for equity and inclusion
- Uses strong analytical and decision-making skills to read and evaluate a large number of applications while meeting deadlines
- Builds relationships with school counselors, prospective students, and families. Develops a nuanced understanding of high schools in an assigned geographic territory and acts as the primary admission contact for those schools
- Plans and executes a significant travel schedule on behalf of the College. Follows up on all travel contacts and timely filing of all reports regarding all activities (this includes a reporting/rating of all activities, expense reports, and follow-up with counselors and students)
Our lived experience impacts how we self-assess our skills, experience, and qualifications. In particular, data and statistics have shown that candidates who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, people from working-class backgrounds, people with disabilities, and others with minoritized and marginalized identities may not apply to jobs when they do not believe they meet 100% of the requirements and expected responsibilities listed in the job descriptions. Some responsibilities and skills are teachable and can be learned on the job. If you can imagine yourself in this position, bringing value to our students and community and meeting most of what we are looking for, please apply.
Benefits include health, dental, vision, employer-paid life and disability insurance, voluntary life, critical illness and accident insurance options, parental leave, flexible spending accounts (healthcare and dependent care), 401(k), generous paid time off, paid holidays, employee and dependent tuition benefits, employee and family assistance program, well-being programs and opportunities, discounted gym membership, paid volunteer time, use of the athletic facilities and the library, and countless opportunities to attend presentations, lectures, and other campus activities.
Requirements:
Applicants must have the following:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a liberal arts discipline
- Has an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion frameworks and concepts with an ability to apply them to decision-making, policies and procedures development, and interpersonal relations
- Training and leading experiences preferred
- Ability to convincingly articulate the value of a liberal arts and sciences education at a Catholic institution
- Flexibility and dependability
- Willingness to travel for extensive periods of time
- Strong oral and written communications skills, excellent organizational ability, the ability to multi-task, accept responsibility, be self-reliant, and complete assigned tasks on schedule
- Knowledge of and experience with social networking and technology is desirable
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a driving record check. For criteria, please see the Driver Acceptability Matrix
An offer of employment will be contingent upon the successful completion of a driving record and background check.

Please be prepared to attach the following documents
- Resume
- A cover letter that includes a statement articulating your skills, and experience applying the concepts and frameworks of diversity, equity, and inclusion to recruiting students who are BIPOC and students with marginalized and minoritized backgrounds and identities.
- Contact information for three professional references will be requested at a later date
For full consideration, please submit application materials by May 1, 2023. Position remains open until filled.
