We are seeking an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach who will work to support the mission and integrity of the Johns Hopkins University and the Athletics department. Johns Hopkins University is a multi-divisional NCAA institution with 24 teams; men's and women's lacrosse compete at the Division I level (Big Ten Conference), and the remaining teams compete in Division III (primarily Centennial Conference). The Varsity Weight Room recently completed a renovation which doubled its training space and updated its equipment. This position will play a vital role in scheduling and maximizing the updated spaces to allow for an immersive student-athlete strength and conditioning experience. The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive and evidence-based strength and conditioning programs tailored for their assigned NCAA programs.Demonstrating adherence to the department philosophy, facility and staff schedule, equipment and facility maintenance expectations, communication responsibilities is essential. The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment and a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches. The position reports to the Director of Strength and Conditioning, as a member of both the Strength & Conditioning Staff, and the Sport Performance and Wellness team.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Designs and implements sport-specific strength and conditioning programs that facilitate maximum benefits for assigned sports teams and assists when necessary for other teams noted.
Leads support staff in the absence of Director of Strength & Conditioning.
Maintains healthy working relationships with members of the Johns Hopkins Athletics Department staff and student-athletes.
Coordinates programming that can be implemented at practices and captain-led sessions, including warm-ups, cardiovascular training, agility, flexibility and recovery.
Communicates and collaborates with Head Coaches, and members of the Sports Performance and Wellness team on performance enhancement, injury prevention, recovery, and conditioning best practices for assigned sports and individual athletes.
Maintains student-athlete records and monitor progress of training programs using TeamBuildr software.
Ensures proper operation of weight room with a focus on safety/education, inclusion, and holistic growth.
Assists Director of Strength & Conditioning in maintaining accurate inventory and control all supplies and equipment in the weight room.
Works flexible hours as required including early mornings, evenings, and weekends (travel may be required).
Continues education via professional development training and/or working toward degree in relevant program (maintaining relevant certifications is expected).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree required; Either National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association certification required.
Must be First Aid/CPR Certified.
Experience as a strength and conditioning coach at the university/NCAA or professional level is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree preferred. USAW and FRCms certifications are preferred.
Previous supervisory experience as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are preferred.
Experience with data-tracking technology, like Tendo Power Analyzer, Catapult Sports, and Sparta Science is highly preferable.
