The Apprentice Dispatcher is an entry level position for employees who perform tasks involved with becoming a future Dispatcher Grade 3 at Kalaeloa. The Position involves physical labor but is heavily focused on the operation and preventive maintenance of the Cement Division’s Bulk Loading equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Possess good judgment - must pass the job description physical capacity functions test.
2. High School Diploma or equivelant a must
3. Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license, Class 3 or higher.
4. Use of MS Office and IT tools a must.
5. Must submit and pass a drug screening and security background check. Obtain a TWIC security card.

Preferred Qualifications

Mechanical experience a plus.

Additional Requirements

1. Performs Grade 1 Labor Tasks.
2. Focus on learning/certifying/peforming to meet Grade 3 Dispatcher tasks.
3. Assists with preventive maintenance and lubrication on assigned equipment. Performs necessary cleaning and basic repairs such as chaning leaking H2O trap bowls and clearing “rocks” from the truck loading fluff box to minimize production interruptions. Performs necessary servicing on mobile equipment as needed.
4. Operates Company computer programs in the production, transfer and sales of products.
5. Operates Company bulk loading equipment.
6. Sacks and desacks cement bags and Super Sacks. Shovels cement and other materials as required.
7. Signal equipment operators and truckers to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
8. Clean and prepare work areas to eliminate potential hazards. Maintains good housekeeping.
9. Load, unload, and identify job site materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations as directed.
10. Works closely with other Hawaiian Cement and subcontractor personnel to optimize production. Must be able to assist with other tasks as required with learning Terminal Operator tasks.
11. Must be able to work effectively on odd shifts with minimal supervision. Must be available and willing to fill in extended hours on short notice as needed.
12. Always works safely and takes action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes and behaviors. Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Immediately informs supervisor of safety violations.
13. Must be available for temporary transfer to other departments to do qualified work. Must be able to assist with other tasks as required.
14. Promotes company’s Mission and Vision statements.

Key Skills & Competencies

1. Use basic operator tools such as adjustable wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc to make basic operator repairs/adjustments such as Dust Collector Timer Adjustment and replace cylinder safety noise mufflers in their daily plant checks. Must be able to use tools correctly and safely.
2. Meets Hawaiian Cement qualifications to operate light wheeled machinery.
3. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, suppliers, inspectors, and co-workers.
4. Must understand and follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to read and comprehend equipment and operations manuals.
5. Able to work in varying environments, from air-conditioned office to dusty, noisy field conditions.
6. Be physically able to climb stairs and ladders or other physically demanding tasks necessary in performing field inspections up to 80ft high.
7. Must possess valid Hawaii State Driver’s License and be able to operate a 4 ton forklift.
8. Able to work a flexible schedule, to include holidays and weekends, according to operational requirements. Must be available and willing to fill in extended hours on short notice as needed.
9. Frequent lifting and carrying heavy items weighing 100 pounds.
10. Must be able to work in a non-smoking workplace.
