Position Overview

The Account Supervisor is vitally important position on the account service team. It’s a leadership position, directly responsible for a group of accounts. The success or failure of these accounts is the primary responsibility of the account supervisor.


This position orchestrates all aspects of account work, including building client relationships, strategic planning, budgeting, plan execution and reporting value to the client. The Account Supervisor also provides a point of view on personnel, procedural, policy and quality issues, and contributes to the development of new business opportunities for the agency.


Being able to conduct work with autonomy and confidence, yet knowing when to seek counsel and consult with a team is a vital component of success in this position. Individuals with ambition and personal drive will be successful.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages and orchestrates account teams (account coordinators, account executives, creative, media and digital teams) and oversees all account activities to ensure the clients’ goals are met.
  • Develops strategy for marketing communication plans and manages implementation of tactics. This includes:
    • Meets with clients.
    • Delivers recommendations and smart counsel on a daily basis.
    • Remains up-to-speed on all client industry trends and current events.
    • Makes client presentations and facilitates meetings.
    • Develops and implements plan tactics.
    • Develops and monitors budgets.
    • Supervises account teams.
    • Reports value and results to clients.
    • Writes creative briefs, project plans, service reports and a variety of additional materials.
    • Writes succinct and complete diary entries.
    • Facilitates research, both primary and secondary, and draws insightful conclusions.
  • Develops new business by growing existing accounts. This includes working with team to develop ideas, and pitching and closing new opportunities with an existing client.
  • Develops new business by leading or participating in a pitch to win a new account. This could include writing a response to an RFP, or being part of the pitch team.
  • Provides agency and team leadership, as well as specialized thinking for account issues. This includes providing counsel for other account supervisor’s accounts when called upon.
  • Develops accurate budgets that are large enough to ensure profitability, but fair
  • Represents the agency in the community through active participation in civic and/or professional organizations.

Experience

A minimum of seven years experience in marketing communications is recommended. Ad agency background is preferred.

Education

A four-year college degree in public relations, journalism, marketing or communications is required. Higher-level education or accreditation in communications or related field is preferred.
