Position summary:

The Youth Development Coordinator, under the supervision of the Sr. Director, shall be responsible for the development, administration, supervision and membership service delivery of family programming related to Camp, Arts and Humanities, Sports & Recreation and other youth development programs located at the Newman Branch.


As a Coordinator, roles include responsibility for the supervision and safety of children, while providing high quality programs that allow for positive interaction with children and families. This position’s primary focus is on providing on-line leadership and supervision for Mission-based program development and implementation. All programs shall be conducted within the framework of policies and procedures established by the YMCA.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and provide a well-rounded family programming to meet the established needs of members and the community.
  • A majority of time worked will be providing instruction and working directly with members.
  • Plan, develop, and provide on-line leadership for Kids events, family programming, camp enrichment/specialization, birthday parties, and branch-wide special events.
  • Demonstrate and teach the Character Development values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • Ensure that all program operations are consistent with Association procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate records and logs for all program responsibilities and ensure program evaluations are completed by participants.
  • Maintain proper care and inventory of all related program equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure that all risk management and safety practices are in place and managed. •Design all program and facility schedules for youth and family programming
  • Along with the Sr. Program Director, recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate all staff and volunteers relative to program responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all new and existing employees and volunteers receive all necessary training and orientation as mandated by each position and monitor the adherences of all program staff to job requirements.
  • Conduct all appropriate staff trainings and meetings.
  • Develop annual operating goals and objectives in conjunction with supervisor.
  • Actively pursue training, learning opportunities and certifications as they relate to responsibilities.
  • Work closely with the Sr. Program Director and marketing personnel to promote programs and ensure appropriate enrollment.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff and parents on an ongoing basis.
  • Be a member service ambassador, remaining abreast of current programs and facility schedules; being prepared to provide personalized direction to other YMCA services.
  • Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports immediately and turn into appropriate personnel.

Qualifications

  • College background relating to youth is strongly desired.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • This position requires experience in planning, organizing, and directing a variety of Arts & Humanities programs and services.
  • Must possess skills in program development.
  • Outstanding communications skills and analytical planning abilities
  • Effective human relation’s skills.
  • Prior Y experience and familiarity and training in Listen First and Supporting Change and Building Communities preferred.
