Job summary: Volunteers in the Emergency Department greet patients and families, help place families into patient rooms, and visit patient rooms to provide toys and comfort items to patients and siblings.Job description:
Volunteers follow instructions from the Charge Nurse and Volunteer Office to perform volunteer functions in the department including:
- Greet patients and families waiting to be admitted in the waiting room.
- Assist patients and families to their assigned room.
- Visit patient rooms to offer distraction toys and comfort items.
- Visit with patients and families.
- Locate and clean wagons and wheelchairs for use.
- Assist with toy preparation as needed.
- Assist with basic child distraction interaction as needed.
Currently open shifts:
- Mon 6-9pm
- Tues 12-3p
- Wed 9-11:30p
- Thurs 12-3pm
- Sat 3-6p, 6-9p
- You will not be considered for any other times.
Expectations:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have prior medical or emergency training and/or experience.
- Be able to commit to 6 months of volunteering once a week for three hours.
- Able to follow and execute instructions
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Able to work with children in varying age groups
- Able to work well with diverse populations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sensitive to patient and family situations / dynamics
- Maintain and respect professional relationships
