THIS ROLE:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President of Marine Transportation to lead and grow our marine transportation division. The VP will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of crewing, vessel maintenance, vessel management, and project management, ensuring that operations are efficient and meet the highest standards of quality and safety. The ideal candidate is a results-driven leader with a passion for process development and a commitment to accountability. The Leader will illustrate a growth mindset and be open to challenging the status quo to get better outcomes. The leader will be responsible for our fleet and holding crew accountable to standards of maintenance and performance. This leadership position is based at our Long Beach California headquarters.
The leader will manage the Marine Transportation division and be responsible for a highly qualified and technically advanced team. This leader will implement processes to both enhance quality and allow Curtin to continue scaling in an elegant manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of managers and support staff, creating a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Mentor and establish high standards. Coach a growth mindset.
Process Development: Identify opportunities for process improvement and develop systems and procedures to streamline operations and increase efficiency as we scale.
Crewing: Oversee the selection, training, and management of marine crew, ensuring that all personnel are properly qualified and meet the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Vessel Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of vessels, ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained and operational at all times, executing on every aspect of the Curtin Standard.
Vessel Management: Oversee the daily operations of vessels, ensuring that they are operated safely and efficiently, and that they meet all relevant regulations and standards.
Project Management: Lead and manage marine transportation projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Accountability: Establish and maintain a culture of accountability, ensuring that all personnel are held accountable for their actions and that the division operates in a transparent and ethical manner.
CRITICAL TASKS:
- Evaluate teams’ talents and develop structure to better utilize skill sets and resources.
- Develop standards and audits to achieve and maintain the vessel standard.
- Create accountability for our management staff in order to scale team effectively.
- Mentor and coach team on decision making and process improvement activities.
- Be a key advocate of the CEO both understanding and then facilitating his vision by providing good data points for decision making.
- Understand spend and resource deployment and develop ways to maximize value for the organization.
- Build operations to scale and add additional vessels to the fleet.
- Maintain high standard of crew continuity and outcomes associated.
- Facilitate better processes to track activities across fleet to allow for better prioritization.
- Work with other groups to streamline activities that involve other disciplines like Accounting and HSSE.
- Engagement of all personnel across the organization to learn and understand our employees, especially crew members.

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as marine transportation, maritime studies, or engineering.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in marine transportation or industry that provides sufficient transferable knowledge, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Experience in process development and a track record of implementing systems and procedures to increase efficiency.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage complex projects.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
