This exciting position works Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm as well as occasional after hours when in an emergency operation is activated.

Are You a Good Fit?
The ideal candidate must be able to maintain the City’s operations contracts including the wastewater treatment plants, line cleaning and televising, main repairs, hydrant painting, pipe assessment data and software and the meter replacement program. The ideal candidate must maintain a working knowledge of engineering and construction concepts, principles, and practices. An understanding of internal asset management efforts including smart initiatives, Capital Improvement Program coordination and Master planning is essential for success in this role. We are looking for a candidate that is able to prioritize and manage work assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to make independent judgements is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of organization, and self-motivation. We are looking for someone who can solve complex problems with innovative solutions. This position would be responsible for supervising the Contract Service Coordinator. What We Need from You as an Engineer I - Utilities
As our Engineer I - Utilities, you will represent the City of Sugar Land Public Works Department. You will be responsible for all aspects of the operational contracts which averages around $2 million in annual water and wastewater service contracts. This position will be required to develop the scope of work, performance tracking and budget management. This includes regular communication with the contractors, vendors and consultants. This position will enhance your analytical skills and communication skills. It is your priority to deliver excellent customer service when coordinating repair services.
The ideal candidate is innovative, motivated, organized, and dependable. You listen to your team and enhance all current projects and initiatives. You are a quick learner and thorough, so your work is completed by each deadline. You follow through and are accountable for all actions. Being at work on time is a priority along with following all safety protocols. When an emergency situation arises, you are not easily flustered, but are willing to work hard to help in any way designated by your leadership team. A great candidate would also ensure that all contracts are kept up with and maintained and completed in a timely manner. At the end of the day, you get great satisfaction out of completing a hard days’ work by making each experience with public works contracts exemplary. - Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering or a related field from an Accredited University is required.
- One year of progressively responsible engineering experience or knowledge of water and wastewater repairs and maintenance preferred, but not required
- Experience in ArcMap GIS, Excel, Power BI, Databases are preferred, but not required
- Municipal government experience preferred, but not required.
- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
