Utility Operator
Job description
The League City Utility Operator is responsible for the day to day ground, equipment, and building maintenance of the Water Production facilities. A typical day will include flushing of the dead-end mains, and maintaining the appearance of the hydrants. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

- Prepare all stations for inspection by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality by performing general maintenance on all water stations. (i.e. painting, pressure washing, fixing fences barbed, and clearing debris from fence lines).
- Flush dead-end mains to ensure the CL2 residuals adequately meet state requirements also record water loss data.
- Assist in cleaning all Elevated and Ground Storage Tanks.
- Maintain all fire hydrants within the city by mowing and painting as needed.
- Address water pressure complaints as needed or instructed by their supervisor.
- Assist with Water Operations (i.e. check pressure, tank levels, chlorine residual, and ammonia levels).
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Subject to afterhours and weekend callouts
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Obtain Class "D" Water License within one year of hire date.
- Valid TX Driver's License
- Class "D" Water License
Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.
Knowledge of:
- Basic mathematics skills addition and subtraction.
- Working with others, equipment, ground maintenance and building maintenance.
- Operate equipment, hand tools, and do heavy lifting and pulling.
- Carry out written and oral instructions.
- Communicate effectively when dealing with resident complains and department personnel.
- Have a flexible schedule (i.e. overtime, special projects, start-ups, and emergencies).
Tasks involve physical effort exerting at least 50 lbs. of pressure; lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects and supplies of at least 50 lbs. This position requires constant walking, sitting, climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, crouching, crawling, foot controls, balancing, reaching, fine dexterity and awareness of surroundings using acute senses of vision, hearing and verbal communication.
