CONSTRUCTION TRAINING MANAGER
(Full-Time Position)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Construction Training Manager shall report to the Project Director and is responsible for the oversight, management and coordination of all construction training activities including, but not limited to, classroom vocational instruction and on-site construction training. This position will follow a set of competencies that all YouthBuild participants are required to achieve before they graduate from the program. Will oversee the entire construction training program and the implementation of the HBI-PACT pre-apprenticeship and will ensure the proper delivery and industry standards are met for successful completion of PACT certifications. LA CAUSA YouthBuild is a workforce and leadership development program for young people ages 16 to 24+ that live in economically distressed neighborhoods. Young people learn leadership, advocacy and workforce readiness skills, while they earn an accredited high school diploma and industry recognized certifications. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, manage, supervise, and coordinate all aspects of the Vocational and Hands-on-Construction Training component activities.
  • Plan, develop and implement strategies to meet Vocational Training and Hands -on-Construction component program goals and objectives.
  • Responsible to train and prepare up to 40 YB members on HBI-PACT curriculum, and ensure all YB members receive PACT certifications upon completion
  • Ensure that adequate and appropriate construction safety procedures are in place and enforced in a consistent manner.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to ensure quality and improve operations in the Vocational and Hands-on- Construction Training program components; coordinate collaboration and team building among staff.
  • Develop and implement procedures necessary to secure, maintain and report inventory of tools and materials.
  • Proficiency in using tools/ safety equipment appropriate for various work projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage youth in meaningful, interesting, and creative learning experiences
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills; ability to make group presentations and facilitate group activities
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple tasks, work in a high- paced environment, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, as well as train others
  • Provides daily project status updates, written evaluations, incident reports, and accurate documentation of attendance, participation, and work hours. All submissions will be physical and digital.
  • Responsible to transport YB trainees to the worksite and supervise/mentor them during their participation at the worksite
  • Will coordinate with the construction worksite for training schedules and any other partner needs and will nurture a strong partnership to ensure the worksite stays on course as planned and YB Trainees are gaining the skills necessary to secure future employment in the construction industry.
  • Ability to structure tasks, establish priorities and set goals.
  • Ensures quality instruction of construction skills including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, and equipment operation. Supervises participants in hands-on work projects that prepare students by providing experience directly related to construction industry occupations and/or construction apprenticeships
  • Will be responsible to keep track of YB trainees’ worksite hours, hands-on construction training instruction, credential attainment, and all related job-readiness activities and documentation in accordance with DOL requirements
  • Coordinate daily and special activities with other LA CAUSA YouthBuild program components.
  • Participate in community service, attend retreats, workshops and conferences as required.
  • Provide regular feedback on a formal and informal basis to the Project Director regarding program status, suggestions for improvement and progress towards meeting stated goals and objectives.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalency from an accredited institution required; AA and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred AND at least one (3) year of experience working and/or training young people of various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds OR any combination of experience and education that would achieve the desired outcome
  • Competent level of computer skills (Goggle Office Environment) and the ability to generate necessary reports.
  • Demonstrates the supervisory, project management and logistics skills necessary to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates the oral and written communication skills necessary to prepare concise, logical, grammatically correct documents and presentations.
  • Knowledge of the YouthBuild movement desirable

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • 50,000. – 60,000 annual salary (reflects the entire pay range); a starting wage is based on a level of experience and education that exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).
