The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.

The Tire Program Supervisor manages the City's commercial fleet tire replacement program; this requires managing a $3.5 million-dollar budget and coordinating with vendors and manufacturers on tire-related issues. The Tire Program Supervisor develops and monitors new and retread tire contracts, processes warranty claims, and addresses global issues regarding tires in the fleet. This role would be responsible for managing inventory, tire preventative maintenance, premature failures, tire damage, and warranty claims within the fleet management software. Additionally, experience conducting technical training on tire repair is critical including keeping current on industry tire materials and safety related topics. The Tire Supervisor is also involved in drafting proposals to secure bids from new tire and recap tire dealers who wish to perform services for the City or adopt Cooperative contract for purchasing. This position reports to the Fleet Operations Manager.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to perform advanced formulas and pivot tables in excel for analysis.
  • Ability to effectively build partnerships with tire vendors who service the City's fleet tire needs.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to facilitate presentations or training sessions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a program.
  • Ability to work one on one with vendors to resolve issues (billing, payment, ect.).
  • Ability to use Contracted Vendor when procuring a product.
  • Light and heavy-duty tire knowledge.
  • Knowledge of inventory and maintenance systems: M5, SAP or comparable.
  • Knowledge of processes and procedures in a fleet environment.

SALARY


$22.92 (minimum) - $34.78 (maximum) hourly / $47,673.60 - $72,342.40 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $72,342.40 depending upon qualifications.

Pension Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in managing new and recap/retread tire operations.
  • Experience supervising a staff involved in tire operations.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
  • Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Certifications from the Tire Industry Association, (TIA) at the 300 or 400 level.
  • Experience with retread tire contracts and processing warranty claims.
  • Experience conducting training classes and/or oral presentations in OSHA or the commercial service industry.
  • Experience performing costing and trend analysis and making recommendations based upon results.
  • Experience performing tire evaluations for salvage analysis.
  • Experience in dealing with customers face to face, on the phone, or email communication.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Experience in ordering, tracking, and follow up of orders.
  • Experience in managing a multi-million dollar budget.
  • Experience in developing a Tire Training Program.
  • Experience performing tire evaluations.
