A Test Technician (TT) test transformers, switchgear, control components and circuits to assure compliance with VTC and industry standards and customer specifications. The TT inspects products before and after assembly for conformance. This person must excel in resolution of technical problems, work to implement continuous improvement projects; reduce cost and cycle time; resolve production issues and suggest improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine tests (such as ratio, phase rotation, resistance, impedance, and loss measurements, power factor, Megger, etc.)
  • Perform high voltage tests on transformers and switchgear. (Ex. Impulse, partial discharge, hypot, double induction, etc.)
  • Sample oil from main tank and transformers to perform di-electric test. Send out samples for other special tests.
  • Perform pre-assembly ratio tests.
  • Troubleshoot test failures
  • Inspect assembly procedures to maintain quality. Inspection includes Engineering drawings, outlines and designs, mechanical dimensions, electrical wiring, and overall appearance of the product.
  • Write Non-Conforming Reports (NCR) when necessary. Follow-up through correction and approval before stamping approval for shipping.
  • Maintain records of all work.
  • Prepare test folders/reports submission for approval

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 1 year relevant experience in QC, electrical troubleshooting and testing or electrician’s helper experience in medium voltage
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and good communication skills, both oral and written,
  • Ability to work with mechanical and electrical blueprints throughout the production process.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, processes and related work experience using essential tools and equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, evening / off shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Prefer 2 year Engineering technology degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Prefer the candidate have manufacturing experience.

  • Stamina – Stand for long periods

  • Calibrated resistance measuring equipment — Insulation resistance testers; Wheatstone bridges
  • Mallets — Rawhide hammers; Rubber mallets
  • Stripping tools — Wire strippers
  • Voltage or current meters — Digital voltage meters; Test lamps
  • Wire cutters — Wire cutting tools; Wire snips
