About the Role

The Technical Services Manager position is a naval architect / marine engineer with a thorough hands-on working knowledge of ship construction, ship structures, propulsion, auxiliary and electrical systems, vessel stability including emergency damage control stability, dry docking of large ships, vessel modifications and new equipment installations.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage implementation of capital projects including preparing project justification requests and project budgets, reviewing and negotiating contracts for major equipment and services, and managing overall budgets and cash flow timings.
  • Provide technical assistance to Fleet Engineering/Vessels as requested in areas such as regulatory issues, documentation, specifications, operations procedures, preparing input to shipyard specifications and support to drydock team in shipyard.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with new and existing regulatory requirements.
  • Manage large modifications projects including selecting and overseeing engineering and naval architecture support contracts, providing engineer review of engineering and naval architect work products, providing engineering support to project site teams, assisting with specification, sourcing and purchase of project related materials and vendor management.
  • Maintain vessel documentation, including regulatory approvals.
  • Serve as standby New Construction Site Office manager to fill in during periods when Site Office manager is unavailable due to vacation or travel for other duties
  • Participate as part of Vessel Performance Monitoring team.
  • Liaison with ABS and DNV Emergency Response groups.
  • Manage professional engineering consulting engineers and services to make sure that clear priorities are maintained to ensure support to critical projects and maintain schedules.
  • Serve as engineering management point of contact when the Director of Engineering is not available.

You have these skills:

  • Ability to manage the design of large-scale shipboard modification projects.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Microsoft Project.
  • Auto CAD.
  • Ability to write clearly for both technical and non-technical audience.
  • NS-E ship management software.

And these qualifications:

  • Naval architect degree.
  • Strong knowledge of IMO and USCG regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of Class Society rules and standards.
  • Working knowledge of HECSalv & Cargomax.
  • Must be able to travel within the U.S and Internationally destinations to attend ships in port and in shipyards.
  • Must be able to climb ladders when on board and in shipyard.
