We are hiring for Summer Camp Counselors!

The LGSRC Summer Camp Counselor, under the supervision of the Camp Director, is responsible for the leadership of groups of varying numbers of children in accordance with LGSRC approved staff-to-child ratios. The Camp Counselor works to maintain a safe and well-supervised day camp environment and adheres to LGSRC goals, principles, and policies.
Camp Counselors must have the physical, mental, and social ability to lead and participate in a broad range of camp activities, including arts and crafts, outdoor games and activities, free swim, and more.
Moreover, Camp Counselors must also possess visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents, physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations, judgment to adequately observe campers' activities and enforce safety regulations in a proactive manner, and force of presence to conduct large groups of children.
This position is Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 3:00PM for the dates of Monday, June 12, 2023 - Friday, August 11, 2023. In this Summer Camp Counselor position, you will be working with 5 - 10 year-olds. *Camp counselors must be available 8 out of 9 weeks of camp.
Essential Job Functions:
-Create a positive, happy, safe environment for the children in camp.
-Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week.
-Activities include arts and crafts, games, tennis lessons, snack and lunch time, swimming, etc.
-Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
-Supervise campers during restroom breaks/changing clothes for swim.
-Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter at all times.
-Communicate with parents about participants' experiences and report concerns to the Camp Director.
-Assist with sign-in when children arrive and sign-out when children are picked up.
-Have knowledge of, enforce, and follow all emergency procedures associated with the camp and all program areas. This is includes, but is not limited to being responsible for your campers' safety and whereabouts at all times.
-Assist with supervision of campers with attention to all of the following: program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character, and skill development.
-Be concerned for the social adjustment of each camper.
-Promote camper participation in all activities.
-Take turns with other counselors for various responsibilities and help each other as part of a team.
-Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, etiquette and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial model to campers.
-Set a good example in all you do at camp. Camp is a fun experience!
A passion for working with school-aged children is a MUST!
Physical Demands of Position:
Standing, running, walking 100% of shift. Kneeling, stooping, stretching, twisting and turning. Use of sight, hearing, speech, and smell.
Education/Background Requirements:
Basic math and writing skills. CPR certification upon hire. Must pass a criminal background check through the Trustline Registry Program.
