General Purpose

Summer Basketball Camp Instructors work in cooperation with Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront staff to facilitate our basketball camps for grades 3-7. They will be responsible for designing lesson plans/curriculum, instructing and supervising campers.

This position is for one week only. Must be available from 8:30am-12:15pm the week of June 19-23

Essential Job Functions

  • Follow all departmental and rules and regulations.
  • Assist Camp Director in organizing and facilitating lesson plans/curriculum of camp.
  • Assist Camp Director in supervising and instructing participants.
  • Check area for safety hazards and report deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
  • Report all accidents/incidents occurring within jurisdiction to supervisor.
  • Administer proper First Aid as required.
  • Required to be on site 30 minutes before the program starts for set up and preparation.
  • Required to clean up at the end of the day.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required, reasonable accommodations will be considered.
  • Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation preferred.
  • College course work in Education, childhood development, family studies, or recreation preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for sport specific camp.
  • Knowledge of sport specific rules and regulations.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Must have a desire to work with children and demonstrate enthusiasm, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Hold or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification upon hiring.
