General Information
The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is looking for an energetic, friendly, detail-oriented student to join our staff as the Student Assistant for housing. This is a part-time, paid position for a student who will be available during the Fall 23 and Spring 24 semesters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Function as a member of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Staff by participating in weekly or biweekly staff meetings, weekly office hours (10/week) and FSL office Coverage, training workshops and other Fraternity and Sorority life events as needed.
- Communicate, collaborate, and assist in enforcing the University, IFC, Panhellenic and FSL policies.
- Serve as a resource and advocate to the house managers.
- Assist in the implementation of House Manager training.
- Facilitate communication among House Managers
- Hold monthly house manager meetings.
- Serve as a liaison to the Office of Residence Life and meet with staff several times a semester.
- Conduct and document biweekly walkthroughs of the row houses and fire drills twice a semester in all sorority row housing in partnership with Residence Life.
- Address building operation issues and behavioral issues as needed in collaboration with House Managers, FSL staff and ORL Staff.
- Assist House Managers in the opening and closing processes for move in on the Row, sorority row housing for breaks and school openings and closings.
- Collaborate with ORL and FSL to assist with House Managers interviews.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Perviously served as a Sorority Row House Manager.
- Ability to work 10 hours per week
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for the position and high degree of reliability.
- Demonstrated knowledge of JMU Fraternity and Sorority Life
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Ability to work well within a group
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, ability to use basic technology (email, telephone, etc.)
Conditions of Employment
Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
