The Northwest D.C. Young Life area is strategic to fulfilling the Great Commission. This community is in Washington, D.C., and located north of the National Mall and west of North Capitol Street. The largest of the four quadrants, Northwest D.C. contains most of the city’s federal buildings, tourist destinations and wealthier neighborhoods. It encompasses the areas known as Penn Quarter, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, and Columbia Heights, among others. There are major attractions in Northwest D.C. such as museums on the north side of the National Mall, Capital One Arena, National Cathedral, the White House, Rock Creek Park, and others. Northwest D.C. is a diverse community with a highly diverse student population. There is opportunity in this area to impact teenagers who are future leaders in our nation’s capital and across the world.

Young Life in Northwest D.C. has a rich history of ministry in the local high schools and more recently, a growing presence at Wilson High School. Over the past year, a YoungLives ministry to teen moms has begun to develop. There is a great opportunity to carry on this legacy of innovation to continue to reach a diverse group of teenagers at all of the schools and neighborhoods in this area.

Responsibilities:

  • We are seeking someone who is called and committed to reaching teenagers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and leading a team of volunteers.
  • Expectations will include being at the school on a daily basis, meeting and building relationships with students, training and leading a team of volunteers to do incarnational ministry at the school, building and leading a Campaigners community, leading a club and camp trips.
  • This staff person should also be excited to recruit volunteer leaders to partner in ministry.

Qualifications:

  • A deep prayer life and commitment to Jesus first — both personally and in ministry.
  • Commitment and skills to lead a diverse team and reach all types of kids.
  • Desire and proven ability to develop healthy discipleship opportunities for teenagers.
  • Models relational ministry with teenagers by participating in direct ministry.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, supervise and retain volunteer leaders.
  • Willingness to raise personal financial support.
  • Desire and capacity to work with people from diverse socioeconomic and economic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to partner with local churches.
  • Two-to-three-year commitment.
