Location/Schedule:
Primary purpose:
- Responsible for environmental permitting and compliance associated with the construction, maintenance and operation of pipelines, terminals, and processing, pumping or compression facilities.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Proactively plan, organize, coordinate, and oversee environmental permitting and compliance activities.
- Plan and execute diligence studies, identify environmental permitting requirements and timelines, prepare cost estimates and budgets.
- Manage consultants performing environmental survey and permitting support. Evaluate consultant proposals, monitor schedules, track budgets, and review consultant deliverables.
- Prepare and review environmental reports and permit applications. Submit and successfully obtain environmental permits and agency consultations.
- Develop and implement procedures and training to ensure that company facilities are constructed, operated, and maintained in compliance with permit conditions.
- Conduct post-construction permit compliance activities as applicable.
- Prepare and execute on Sustainability and/or Biodiversity goals and annual report
- Coordinate with other Company staff (responsible for non-environmental permits/authorizations) to assure clear definition of responsibilities for the different types of required permits and provide input or review where necessary.
- Represent the Company in meetings with environmental agencies.
- Represent the Company in policy discussions and monitor changes to environmental regulations.
- Support company emergency response and reporting requirements for construction and maintenance projects. On-call responsibilities may be 24 hrs./day during project construction periods.
- Provide regular status updates to supervisor
- Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
- Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
- Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships, and provide technical support to business development, engineering, operations, land, regulatory services, and management staff.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental or a related discipline.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
- A minimum of two (2) years direct and active work experience in environmental permitting and/or sustainability activities. Direct experience will determine the level of the position.
- Strong knowledge of the NEPA review process with FERC, BLM, USFS, and other lead federal agencies
- Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental permitting requirements, including, but not limited to, Clean Water Act (CWA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), etc.
- Working knowledge of FERC Upland Erosion Control, Revegetation/Maintenance Plan and Wetland and Water Body Construction and Mitigation Procedures (FERC Plan & Procedures).
- Experience in successfully interacting with federal, state, or local agencies related to environmental permitting authorizations.
- Strong technical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent project management and multi-tasking skills required.
- Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

- Sitting; standing; walking or moving throughout facility; driving; talking; seeing (specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus); hearing; feeling; bending or stooping; squatting or crouching; reaching; kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Minimal safety hazards; general office working conditions.
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- The employee is regularly required to use hands to type, touch, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Required to carry a company-stipend cell phone and be available to respond during working hours; and may be required to respond during non-working hours, especially related to project emergencies.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:
- Direct upstream and midstream industry experience.
- GIS software knowledge and experience are preferred.
- Project experience in states that Tallgrass owns and operates assets.
Applicable professional certification(s).
