Our award-winning, high-volume restaurant, The Grain House, is in search of acharismatic, creative Sous Chef to work alongside our Executive Chef in directly supervising the kitchen staff in the preparation and cooking of all food items executed in our kitchen to meet the highest quality and satisfaction to our guests. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • All culinary operations in the Grain House restaurant kitchen stations ensuring that quality, sanitation, proper doneness, recipes, presentation of food are held consistent and being practiced.
  • During mealtime monitoring portion control, methods of preparation and garnishing of food items.
  • Ensures that applicable health and safety standards are understood and applied to the restaurant “line” as they relate to food preparation, handling and storage and will participate in required health inspections conducted by state, county health department and implement procedures to correct noted deficiencies.
  • Monitor level of food supplies, inventories, equipment, inventories for all shifts operated in the kitchen.
  • Consults with the Executive Chef as to pertinent information regarding day’s forecast and special functions.
  • Monitors work schedules and workload among stations is balanced for optimum performance.
  • Directly oversees the work of the line staff by establishing performance standards, monitoring attendance, tardiness, coaching employees’ performance and recommending disciplinary action to correct the problems.
  • Adjust to the business flow in the outlet and be personally flexible to work any position in the kitchen as needed to maintain the quality of food and guest service required by the Grain House
  • Accept vendor orders in the absence of purchaser or executive chef, ensuring that the received items exceed standards.
  • Daily enforcement and monitoring of “pre-shift” tasting with all wait staff.
  • Managing the completion of closing duties and responsibilities list daily to ensure proper cleanliness and accountability of area.

Qualification/ skills:

  • Proven success in a high-volume restaurant (Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines).
  • Excellent customer service skills with attention to detail and the ability to build strong relationships, especially with local guests and staff.
  • Strong passion for culinary excellence, wine knowledge, and service
  • Good communication skills (excellent written and verbal communication skills)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

  • Culinary school or demonstrated experience within a similar environment.
  • Experience with inventory control, food utilization and portion control.
  • Experience with production worksheets and purchasing.
  • Demonstrated experience with expediting in a high-volume atmosphere.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to work on your feet for most of the day.
  • The ability to lift to 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
