Position Title: Social Media Emotional Support Specialist

Status: Part-time (20 hours per week)/Non-Exempt

Schedule: In the Portland office for 5 days a week for 4 hour shifts or 4 days a week for 5 hour shifts

Compensation: $20-21/hour

Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Social Media Emotional Support Specialist Position Overview: This position will monitor social media for posts authored by youth focusing on suicidality, risk of self-harm, and severe mental health struggles. This position will provide empathetic support and compassionate care to youth in crisis through social media, and work in collaboration with the YouthLine team and Work2BeWell when concerning social media posts are identified to conduct risk assessments, provide empathetic support, deescalate crises, and prepare reports about conversations and interventions that occurred.

Social Media Emotional Support Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Monitor social media posts of youth and identify content focusing on suicidal ideation, risk of self-harm, and severe mental health struggles. . Offer support and compassionate listening to youth in crisis through direct messages on social media.
  • Communicate about social media conversations and interventions with Lines for Life’s internal YouthLine team members, as well as Work2BeWell, a partner of Lines for Life’s YouthLine who works to empower young people and create breakthroughs with the dedicated systems that serve them.
  • Collaborate with the YouthLine and Work2BeWell to engage via social media with youth demonstrating suicidality, risk of self-harm, and severe mental health struggles to conduct risk assessments, deescalate crises, and prepare reports on conversations and interventions that occurred with youth on social media.
  • Collect data related to conversations and interactions on social media with youth and analyze data to identify trends, such as the times during the day and week when the highest frequency of conversations and interactions occurred. Regularly update data collection tools.
  • Evaluation of risk matrix and outcome success
  • With Work2BeWell, research and integrate AI technology into protocols, procedures, and reporting.
  • Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the organization’s goals and philosophies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Social Media Emotional Support Specialist Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in related behavioral science field
  • Crisis intervention experience
  • Experience working with youth
  • Highly competent in social media platforms and web-based computer systems
  • Ability to reach out and establish rapport with youth when engaging through social media
  • Strong analytical skills


Social Media Emotional Support Specialist Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASIST and safeTALK certification preferred
  • Knowledge of compliance and reporting requirements related to youth crisis intervention preferred (e.g. HIPAA compliance, CPS reporting)


Social Media Emotional Support Specialist Work Environment and Schedule Requirements:

  • This position must work at Lines for Life’s SW Portland office in order to effectively collaborate with the YouthLine in the event of a crisis.
  • This position requires a flexible schedule in order to work at a variety of times in order to identify trends in the frequency of risky behaviors. Once sufficient data is collected, the shifts will be scheduled at the most acute times.
  • The work week would consist of 5 days a week at 4 hours per day, or 4 days per week at 5 hours per day.
  • This position requires the ability to sit and look at a computer screen for several hours at a time.
