Position Title: Shipping and Transportation Manager

Location: Gary, IN

Reports To: General Manager

Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000

Company:

Steel building product manufacturer who services customers in the Midwest and beyond is currently searching for a full-time Shipping and Transportation Manager to join our transportation team and to enhance our transportation program.

Job Overview:

The Shipping and Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the company’s freight needs. This position will use our fleet of house trucks and outside carriers to coordinate all shipments while maintaining the proper balance between keeping freight expenses low and providing the highest level of service. The primary duties will include but are not limited to driver management, truck maintenance coordination, DOT compliance, and preparing shipping documents. The Shipping and transportation manager will work closely with the sales team and the production team to accomplish customer satisfaction goals. This position will require accessibility during off hours.

Duties:

- Using our fleet of house trucks and outside carriers, coordinate all shipments and generate the shipping documents. Coordinate backhauls as needed.

- Hire, train, and direct all company truck drivers. Manage the driver safety quality bonus. Approved and submit weekly timecard. Conduct yearly reviews with all drivers.

- Develop methods to decrease costs and improve efficiency.

- Coordinate the preventative and reactive maintenance on all house trucks, trailers, and Moffetts.

- Stay current with all DOT requirements. Responsible for keeping all drivers and vehicles legally compliant with all DOT regulations.

- Negotiate rates with outside carriers. Provide the sales team with shipping lane quotes.

- Responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly shipping reporting.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing shipping, transportation, or drivers.

- Must have excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.

- Good problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills with a strong attention to detail.

- Working knowledge of best driving, delivery, vehicle maintenance practices.

- Must be a self-starter who can effectively multitask under time and cost pressure and can achieve results with minimal supervision.

- Strong math, geography, and computer skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
