Job description
Evening/Overnight shelter advocate
Currently Hours*:
Three shifts rotating every 4 weeks. Every advocate will be required to work each rotation which changes every 4 weeks.
Rotation 1
Day 1: Sunday starting at 8am ending at 8 am on Monday.
Day 2: Monday starting at 5pm ending at 8 am on Tuesday.
Rotation 2
Day 1: Tuesday starting at 5 pm ending at 8 am on Wednesday.
Day 2: Wednesday starting at 5pm ending at 8am on Thursday.
Day 3: Thursday starting at 10 pm ending at 8 am on Friday.
Rotation 3
Day 1: Thursday starting at 5pm ending at 8 am on Friday
Day 2: Friday starting at 5 pm ending at 8 am on Saturday
Day 3: Saturday starting at 12 pm (noon) ending on 8 am Sunday
*(these could change to accommodate scheduling and shelter coverage)
Reports to: Shelter Manager and/or Executive Director
Essential Functions:
· Provide coverage for our domestic violence hotline
· Provide trauma-informed direct services to victims of domestic violence and their children including support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, parenting support, information, and referrals.
· Documents and records client services and hotline calls into client data system
· Communicates shelter rules and communal living guidelines to residents during shift.
· Maintain a safe, secure, stable environment for shelter residents, volunteers and staff
· understands and utilizes principles of trauma informed care and the empowerment philosophy of advocacy.
· Update log notes for the next advocate on duty
. Completes intakes during work shift.
· Models non-violent conflict resolution and uses non-violent forms of guidance.
. Models and actively promotes positive, nurturing interactions between adults and children in shelter.
. Makes rounds throughout the premises, and preforms daily room checks.
· Inform Shelter Manager of shelter needs: repairs, food shift, supplies, etc.
. Performs routine chores and cleaning tasks assigned to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the shelter.
. Attends and participates in scheduled meetings.
. Exhibits exemplary attendance and punctuality.
. Complies with company policies and procedures.
· Attend training as required by Serenity, Inc. policy and procedure’s and the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· strong morals and work ethic, non-judgmental expectations and philosophy toward people that are experiencing trauma and chaos
· Prefer associate degree or experience in social services or family violence.
· Excellent listening and communication skills,
· Above average writing skills
· Able to handle urgent and stressful situations
· Ability to pass Child Maltreatment Background checks
· Reliable transportation
· Data entry knowledge
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $11.00 - $14.50 per hour
