The Sr. LiDAR Systems Engineer will design, develop, and test advanced LiDAR systems for airborne applications to include small aircraft, drones, and other applications. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of LiDAR technology, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience with system-level design and integration. The Sr. LiDAR Systems Engineering is responsible for building, integrating, and leading a highly educated Engineering team taking full advantage of the opportunities within the Sensors Discipline global footprint of Woolpert.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research and development activities to improve the performance and reliability of LiDAR systems.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate the performance of LiDAR systems, including range, accuracy, and resolution.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, software, and firmware engineers, to ensure seamless integration of LiDAR systems into final products.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues with LiDAR systems and work with other engineers to implement solutions.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in LiDAR technology and use that knowledge to improve the performance and functionality of LiDAR systems.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience designing and developing LiDAR systems for airborne, remote sensing, or similar applications.
• Strong understanding of LiDAR technology, including laser sources, optics, detectors and signal processing.
• Experience with system-level design and integration, including mechanical, electrical, thermal, software, and firmware components.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or COMSOL is a plus.
• Experience with safety-critical systems and compliance standards is a plus.
• Laser Safety Officer (LSO) certification is a plus.
