Senior Plan Reviewer (Principal Engineer)
Job description
Prince William County Public Works, Environmental Management Division is seeking an experienced civil engineer with good communication skills to fill the role of a Principal Engineer, to conduct review of land development plans for grading, Erosion & Sediment Control, storm drainage, floodplain studies, and Storm Water Management at a senior level.
The ideal candidate must possess minimum 3 years of experience in civil engineering design or plan review, as it relates to the design aspects of land development plans. The candidate must be proficient in the principles and practices of civil engineering and experienced in designing or reviewing land development plans and specifications.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
This position will report to Plan Review Section Chief within the Environmental Management Branch
PREFERENCES: the successful candidate will have…
- Education and experience in civil engineering, specific to design of stormwater management (SWM) facilities, storm drainage systems, Erosion & Sediment Control (E&S), floodplain studies and overall grading.
- Excellent Communication skills
- Ability to review plans effectively within deadlines.
This position may be underfilled as a senior engineer if the selected candidate does not meet all the education and experience qualifications for the principal engineer position.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work the core hours of 8:30 am-5:00 pm OR 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Monday-Friday.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (P.E) WITHIN ONE YEAR OF EMPLOYMENT.
VIRGINIA CERTIFICATIONS ON STORMWATER MANAGEMENT AND EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL PLAN REVIEW WITHIN ONE YEAR OF EMPLOYMENT.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE:
$79,009 - $113,896
For P.E's - As funding allows, this postion qualifies for a $5000 signing bonus. The bonus is payable in 2 equal installments during the first year of employment.For non PE's - As funding allows, this postion qualifies for a $3000 signing bonus. The bonus is payable in 2 equal installments during the first year of employment.
