Expected salary range of $153,000 to $170,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Oversees and provides review and approval of a variety of accounting and activities to support the monthly financial statement close. Plans and manages close activities and interacts with other departments/Business Units to effectively execute the close. Ensures appropriate internal accounting controls associated with the accounting function. Supports regulatory compliance by coordinating, reviewing and approving analysis applicable to areas of responsibility. Coordinates and works with external auditors in the performance of their audit. Promotes an environment of integrity, collaboration and productivity. Manages a team of capable, high-performing accounting professionals.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintains highest standards of quality and integrity in financial accounting practices of the functional group or Business Unit, with primary focus on the assigned entity. (25%)
- Monitors closing activities for the functional group or Business Unit. (20%)
- Recommends and implements standardized accounting practices compliant with FASB/GAAP, SEC, FERC and other regulatory requirements as it relates to the functional group or Business Unit. (15%)
- Serves as key liaison with accounting personnel in other departments/Business Units. (15%)
- Provides leadership and manages accounting team. (10%)
- Monitors account reconciliations and assists in the evaluation of recorded income and balance sheet amounts, including complex and/or judgmental transactions or reserves. (10%)
- Monitors the internal control environment of the functional group or Business Unit with the support of Internal Audit to ensure compliance. (5%)
JOB SCOPE
- Manages the general ledger monthly closing process and reconciliation for the functional group or the Business Unit.
- Governance and oversight responsibilities (e.g., Property Accounting, Accounting Policy & Research)
- Contributes in technology to improve performance actions.
- Maintains relationships with third parties that support accounting operations.
- Recommends and implements appropriate policies, procedures and controls to assure compliance with FASB/GAAP, SEC and SOX.
- Interfaces with other departments/Business Units.
- Manages team and provides timely and accurate feedback regarding performance. Identifies opportunities for growth learning and career development of team members.
- Demonstrates proven project and performance management skills.
- Demonstrates ability to collaborate, team, build consensus, establish trust and communicate effectively (written and oral).
- Supports External Auditors at the Business Unit to ensure all accounting issues are reviewed and resolved and information requests are provided in time to complete the audit.
- Responsible for the review of certain sections of the 10-Q and 10-K including the MD&A.
- Position, at times, may require overtime, weekend work and limited travel.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent and a CPA
- At least 10 years of related experience, including at least 3 years in management with demonstrated success leading a professional staff
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of Accounting theory, principles, practices and regulations including FASB/GAAP, SEC and SOX compliance
- Understands requirements for documentation in work papers, disclosures and memos; demonstrated ability to document a broad range of technical issues
- Demonstrated successful problem solving and analytical ability; good judgment and risk assessment capabilities
- Demonstrated success setting best practices, guidelines and processes, and implementing them across the organization
- Demonstrated successful use of technology to improve process efficiency
- Strong leadership, management, teamwork and communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups and activities while maintaining proper focus on major tactical and strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a group with divergent opinions to a consensus view and to influence without direct authority
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA with a concentration in Accounting or Finance
- Regulatory/utility/FERC reporting or energy industry experience
