The Diagnostics R&D Scientist I is an onsite role located in Morrisville, NC.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for developing novel Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) based clinical assays.
  • Provide support for the assay development team working with scientists, engineers and clinical researchers through all phases of assay development

Tasks

  • Be responsible for conducting feasibility studies for the quantification of new biomarkers using NMR spectroscopy.
  • Perform analytical and clinical validation studies for new NMR assays following CLSI guidelines.
  • Testing of clinical trial samples under CLIA and NYS regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with other scientists, directors, software/hardware engineers and lab/med technicians.
  • Provide support in troubleshooting instruments and enhancing instrument performance. Write project reports and technical reports.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and presentations.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Theoretical knowledge in NMR and other types of spectroscopy
  • Knowledge of NMR hardware and software (Agilent and/or Bruker) and experience with advanced pulse sequences
  • Knowledge in statistical analysis
  • General knowledge in Linux, Matlab and C# programming
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis and wet chemistry
  • Ability to design and conduct experiments with minimal supervision
  • Experience with method validation and QC (preferred)

  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple concurrent projects and meet scheduled deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills in working with other colleagues/departments to solve problems and to move projects forward
  • Ability to work in a clinical and research lab environment
  • Demonstrable quantitative, analytical and pipetting skills
  • Ability to write technical reports and contribute for publications
  • Effective verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in the English language
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (spreadsheet software) including graphs, and MS Word

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related field
  • 3+ years of postdoc (preferred) or 5+ years of experience in solution NMR in a biotech or in vitro diagnostics setting
