The Research Associate will support the Mid Density (MD) Lab functions by performing a variety of genotyping duties using numerous SOPs and protocols. You will work safely and independently to ensure that throughput and quality of genotyping samples are maintained to meet business partner expectations.

Responsibilities - What you will do:

  • Perform daily MD genotyping duties to completion, according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.

  • Work within a team to collaboratively prioritize production workload.

  • Inspect and perform routine maintenance, QC and verification of equipment used in production and conduct experiments as appropriate.

  • Identify, and when appropriate, validate and implement MD production process improvements.

  • May be requested to lead small scale projects.

  • May be requested to maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of lab process.

  • May be required to initiate and deploy new automation and processes within the lab if deemed necessary.

  • As a part of the larger Global Genotyping team, may be requested to cross train in other genotyping platforms in order to maintain an efficient and flexible workforce.

  • Identify erroneous or unexpected production results and be able to suggest experiments, alternative approaches or corrective actions based upon their conclusions.

  • Identify appropriate uses of company resources when running day to day operations and conducting experiments.

  • Routinely troubleshoot and identify opportunities to optimize the MD production process.

  • Decide priority of daily work activities.

Qualifications


Qualifications - What you will bring:

  • Appropriate degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field with 2 – 4 years of technical lab experience or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.

  • Attention to detail, experience with automation and experience with manual pipetting with accurate and precise technique is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and Microsoft office computer skills required.

  • Works well in a team environment, gives great attention to detail, and possesses multitasking skills.

  • Ability to use computer software and applicable databases to access and track information as required.

  • Broad theoretical understanding in specialized or technical areas (i.e. chemistry, biology, genetics).

  • Experience working in a high-throughput genotyping environment preferred.

  • May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
