Job description

Under close supervision, provides manual labor in the repair and maintenance of City water and sewer systems. Assists in replacing water and sewer lines and making water/wastewater taps. Repairs water meters and meter leaks.
Qualifications: Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Must have knowledge of common safety precautions necessary in the area of work assignment, physical strength and agility to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions, and have the ability to learn how to operate backhoes, track hoes, and various equipment. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Class "B" (minimum) CDL License, or have ability to obtain within sixty (60) days from hire date. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must attend training courses and have the ability to receive and maintain a Class "C" Water Distribution and a Class I Collections License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within two (2) years from hire date. Punctuality and regular attendance are required Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probation period.
Special Requirements: Ability to climb in and out of ditches of varied depth. Ability to lift a minimum of 100 pounds. Ability to use tools such as cut-off saws, sledge hammers, and air hammers that require careful handling. Ability to hear, speak and see effectively. Will be exposed to extreme weather conditions. May be exposed to exhaust fumes of vehicles and equipment. Will often work in ditches and trenches filled with water and mud. Ability to work in confined areas such as ditches and trenches. Ability to crawl inside and through pipe and miscellaneous structures.
