The primary function of this position is to set-up and operate first operation punch presses and similar equipment to produce quality parts per specifications while observing Health, Safety, and Environmental responsibilities. The Punch Press Lead will oversee GAP 1 Set-up/Operators and set press schedules, operator assignments, request materials, run PSM meeting, and assist supervisor in scheduling work through the Tooling department.
Lead position reports directly to the GAP 1 Manufacturing Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs and assists/trains set-up on progressive and single station dies. Selects and positions special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine.
- Performs and assists/trains first article inspection on set-up parts, monitors parts throughout the run to meet blueprint requirements using precision measuring instruments.
- Completes thoroughly required forms such as but not limited to; Tooling Work Orders, control plans, and properly fills out inspection forms.
- Performs daily inspection at the start of shift to ensure presses are functioning properly.
- Adjusts depth and pressure of ram stroke. Aligns bolt dies to ram and bed of machine.
- Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.
- Makes adjustments as needed or required to the following but not limited; shut heights, feeders, pilot release, lubrication systems, stock guides, scrap controls, safety systems, tapping units, die sensors, and air blow offs.
- Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
- Occasionally use fork-lift to move parts only if authorized (certified).
- Review daily schedule and assigns work to press department operators
- Works with Toolroom and Supervisor to prioritize tooling to adhere to schedule.
- Able to train operators on punch press set-up activities.
- Communicates status of department to management in scheduling meetings and other production meetings.
- Preforms PSM 1 meetings when required.
- Reports employee performance issues to Supervisor
- Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
- Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times.
- Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
- Seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
- Suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; and or a minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Read and interpret blueprints or other job specifications.
- Ability to make all inspections on machined parts using precision measuring equipment.
- Must have knowledge of press controls, e-stop, basic feeder settings and light curtains.
- Powered Industrial Truck Operator (Forklift) experience, training and certification conducted internally.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic mainframe computer systems and Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to understand, follow and carry out verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with Tool room and Punch Press personnel. Ability to complete a First Article and a Control Chart.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers. Must be able to calculate parts per hour and to record total quantities on Work Order Tally Sheet.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to reason and provide solutions to problems using concrete variables in standardized situations.

Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR.
