Founded in 1960 by a group of Carteret County citizens without the aid of grants and public funds, the Beaufort Historical Association is a private, non-profit, membership & volunteer based organization which owns and operates the Beaufort Historic Site. Situated in the heart of the town’s historic district, the two-acre Beaufort Historic Site encompasses six authentically restored buildings, including the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery, as well as the Old Burying Grounds.

The Beaufort Historic Site serves as a testament to the Beaufort Historical Association’s dedication to the continued research and documentation of the peoples, customs, lifestyles, and artifacts of Beaufort’s past, and its efforts to preserve the town’s historic identity in the future.

Job title: Public Relations Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Compensation: $18-22 per hour based on qualifications. This position is full-time (40hrs a week) and at times will require afterhours and weekend attendance. The position does not include benefits. The position is in Beaufort, North Carolina with traditional core hours of 9 – 5 p.m.

Qualifications:

Strong marketing, communications and organization skills. Writing and computer experience required. Ability to market, plan and execute events. Must be able to work with volunteers and other staff on BHA sponsored projects. Experience dealing with media (print and digital), writing press releases, social media, and basic graphic design skills. Must be detail orientated and able to multitask.

Required Knowledge:

· Associated Press Writing Style

· Knowledge of managing social media accounts

· Basic Graphic Design Skills (Knowledge of InDesign/Illustrator)

· WordPress or similar website management

· Event planning

· Canva

· Experience working with print, digital, and broadcast media

· Constant Contact email marketing or similar software management

Education: Bachelors or Associates in Communications or similar field. Will also consider applicants with valid work experience.

Duties:

· Develop an overall marketing plan for the site and BHA events to include media plan, advertising, publications and direct mail.

· Develop an outline for individual events and meet with volunteer committees to implement and serve as event coordinator.

· Write press releases and work with media as to placement and scheduling.

· Manage and update the Beaufort Historic Site website (WordPress) as needed.

· Create flyers, signs, brochures, posters or other printed material as needed through InDesign and Canva.

· Share information about events and more through Constant Contact, an email marketing medium.

· Coordinate various bulk mailings (newsletter, special invitations, etc.).

· Design, write and coordinate printing of newsletter and other publications as needed.

· Obtain sponsors for newsletter and selected events.

· Coordinate special events and fund raisers.

· Manage the online presences of the Beaufort Historic Site and Mattie King Davis Art Gallery on Facebook and Instagram.

· Attend meetings with Board and committees such as the Art Committee.

· Maintain records, including plans and evaluations, of events.

· Photograph activities and maintain files of pictures for publicity and history of events.

· Promote BHA and its activities in the community.

· Assist with other projects and activities as requested by the Executive Director.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
