Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Project Manager for our growing practice in bioprocessing. The business is currently comprised of projects in biofuels, sustainable energy, biochemicals, sustainable food processing, alternative proteins, and renewable natural gas (waste to energy). Candidate should be experienced at managing some or all of these types of bioeconomy projects. The position can be located in any one of the Energy and Chemicals Business Unit locations: Greenwood Village (Denver Metro), Colorado; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Richmond, Virginia; Newport News, Virginia; and Baltimore, Maryland. Remote candidates / locations may be considered.
This position is multidimensional in nature and requires elements of leadership, project execution. team management, customer interface, and sales.
Responsibilities include:
- Diligence in executing project management fundamentals, including controlling scope, schedule, budget and changes.
- Tracking project progress through EVM.
- Managing project teams with multi-discipline engineering discipline leads.
- Mastering and implementing industry best practices from PMI, CII and AACE.
- Overseeing project planning, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Traveling to client sites as needed; typically one or two times per month.
- Contributing to business development and meeting with clients to develop scopes of work.
- Tracking major bioprocessing industry trends through participation in industry organizations.
- Contributing to corporate and business unit strategic planning efforts.
- Serving as an account manager for key clients.
Required Experience:
- Should have ten (10) or more years of experience of project execution in bioprocessing, energy or similar industrial sector.
- Must have experience executing large multi-discipline design and construct projects.
- Should have general understanding of projects involving some of the following areas: renewable energy, fuels, fermentation, downstream processing, anaerobic digestion, gas cleanup, bioreactions, thermal chemical conversion, pyrolysis, and biomass material handling.
- Strong bioprocessing industry relationships are an advantage.
- Strong project management skills and experience are required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – all degrees considered; Mechanical, Civil, and Chemical degrees will be most applicable to this position.
- Professional Engineering License is required.
- Knowledge of industry best practices including front end loading (FEL) and VIP.
- Must have a thorough understanding of earned value management, project scheduling, and risk management.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interface successfully with clients, partners, project teams, and Merrick management is required.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
- Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
- May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

- Typical salary range for this position is $120,000-$180,000.00 annually. The pay range listed in this posting indicates the position’s eligibility to work in the state of Colorado and is consistent with our offices there; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
